Getting started

What is Joji, in one sentence?

Joji is an app that keeps your healthcare organized — it captures what happens at your appointments, turns discharge instructions into a plan you can follow, brings your records together, and keeps the people helping you in the loop.

Do I need a procedure or a diagnosis to use it?

No. You can use Joji for any appointment — a checkup, a new symptom, a condition you’ve managed for years — and it keeps the notes, records, and follow-ups from it in one place. A recovery plan after a procedure is one thing Joji does, not the only thing.

How long does setup take?

Setup is signing in, allowing notifications, and then a short chat where Joji asks about your medications, allergies, and conditions. You can skip that chat and pick it up later, and you can connect your medical records whenever you’re ready.

What devices does Joji work on?

Joji is an iPhone app, and you download it from the App Store. There’s no Android version right now. It’s also built for care in the United States, so the records connections and the medical terminology assume a US health system.

Visits and recording

How does recording an appointment work?

You start the recording and you stop it — it never starts on its own. Your audio isn’t stored: it passes through a transcription service that deletes it as soon as the text comes back. Joji keeps the transcript and a summary with medication changes, follow-ups, and questions worth asking.

Do I need permission to record my doctor?

Ask first. Recording laws vary by state, and in some states everyone in the conversation has to agree before you record, so getting the consent the law requires is on you. Joji shows a reminder before recording starts, but it isn’t in the room — if someone asks you not to record, don’t.

Can I use Joji for a telehealth appointment?

Yes. Joji treats a telehealth visit the same way as an in-person one — you can schedule it, record it, and get the transcript and summary afterward. The same consent rules apply, so ask before you record.

What if I forget to record?

Nothing in Joji depends on the recording. You can scan the after-visit summary or the discharge paperwork and Joji will pull the details out of it, and if you’ve connected a health system, what your clinic documented arrives on its own.

Recovery plans and reminders

How does Joji build a recovery plan?

Two ways. If your clinic gave you a code or a QR card, Joji opens the plan that goes with your procedure and anchors it to the date of that procedure, so the tasks land in the right week. It also reads discharge instructions you scan or upload and turns them into tasks and reminders.

Can I use Joji for an ongoing condition rather than a procedure?

Yes. Joji keeps a running picture of your health — conditions, medications, allergies, labs, visits — and it fills in with every appointment and every record you add. Recovery plans are built around procedures; the rest of Joji isn’t.

What if my clinician’s instructions change?

Add the new instructions the way you added the first ones — record or scan the visit where they changed, and Joji picks up the follow-ups from it. If the date of your procedure moves, you can change it and the plan’s dates move with it.

Will Joji nag me?

Only where you let it. Reminders are tied to follow-ups that have a time, you can switch them off item by item or category by category, and reminders due at the same time arrive as one notification instead of several. Messages about your account, security, and billing are part of the service.

Health records

How does Joji get my medical records?

You connect the hospital, clinic, or lab yourself, through a health record service Joji works with, and Joji imports what that source and your permissions allow. Nothing is pulled before you authorize a connection, and you can disconnect a source at any time — records already imported stay.

Which providers can Joji connect to?

You search for your hospital, clinic, or lab by name inside Joji and connect it if it’s there. The catalog comes from the records service we work with and covers electronic health record systems and patient portals, so whether one particular provider is reachable depends on that source rather than on us.

What if my records are incomplete or wrong?

It happens, and it’s worth knowing why: Joji shows what the health system sends, and we don’t verify it or control how complete it is. A correction has to be made with the provider that holds the record. You can also fix what’s in your Joji profile yourself.

Can I export everything?

You have the right to get a copy of what Joji holds about you, and you can ask for it in the app or by emailing us. It’s worth doing before you delete your account, because 30 days after deletion the information is gone for good.

Caregiver access and sharing

How do I add someone to help me?

You exchange a connection code with them and you both approve the link — either person can start it, and it only takes effect when both agree. After that they can reach your profile from their own Joji account, and either of you can undo the link whenever you want.

Can I manage care for a parent or partner?

Yes. If they use Joji, you link your accounts and both of you approve it. If they don’t — a child, or a dependent you look after — you can create and manage a profile for them inside your own account. Either way you need their permission or the legal authority to act for them.

What can a caregiver actually do?

Someone you’ve linked works in your profile the way you do — they can see your visits, records, and follow-ups, and act on them. It’s a full link rather than a read-only view, so add people you’d trust with the whole picture. You can end it at any time.

Will they see everything in my records?

A caregiver you’ve linked sees the profile you gave them access to, including your visits, records, and follow-ups. If you want to share less than that, share a single visit instead — you choose whether it includes the summary, the follow-ups, and the transcript, and when the link stops working.

Privacy and security

Who can see my health information?

You, and the people you invite. Joji staff can reach identifiable health information only when it’s necessary — a support request you made, a bug, a security or safety review, a legal obligation — and that access is limited by role and logged. A clinic that recommended Joji gets none of it.

Do you sell my data?

No. Joji does not sell your health information — not your records, documents, recordings, or transcripts — and does not sell your personal information or hand it to advertisers, data brokers, employers, or insurers. Information that has been de-identified is no longer about you, and our privacy policy explains separately how that is used.

Is Joji HIPAA compliant?

HIPAA governs doctors, hospitals, and health plans. Joji is none of those — it’s an app you download and control — so HIPAA doesn’t apply to us the way it applies to your doctor’s office. We hold your information to those standards anyway: encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access, and vendor agreements covering health information.

Where is my data stored?

In the United States, with the cloud infrastructure and storage providers that run Joji — each under a written agreement that limits them to doing work for us. It’s encrypted in transit and at rest, and access to it is role-based and logged.

What happens to my data if I stop using Joji?

While your account is open, we keep your information for as long as you’re using Joji. If you delete your account, it’s deactivated immediately and permanently deleted from our systems 30 days later. Email us within those 30 days and we can bring it back; after that it can’t be recovered.

Medical advice and emergencies

Does Joji give medical advice?

No. Joji is a technology service, not a healthcare provider, and nothing it produces — summaries, reminders, explanations, suggested questions, recovery tasks — is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a second opinion. It’s there to help you stay organized and prepared for the people who do advise you.

What should I do in an emergency?

Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. Joji is not an emergency service and does not monitor your information for urgent problems, so don’t wait on anything in the app and don’t use it to try to reach your care team quickly.

Is anyone at my clinic watching what I log?

No. A clinic that recommends Joji doesn’t get access to your account or anything in it, and we don’t give a clinic access because it referred you. If you want your care team to see something, you can send it to them — that happens through you, when you choose.

What if Joji gets something wrong?

It will sometimes. Speech recognition misses words, summaries leave things out, and AI output can be wrong or out of date, so check anything that matters against what your clinician told you. You can correct entries in your profile, delete a recording and its summary, and tell us when something looks off.

Pricing and subscriptions

What does Joji cost?

Joji is offered at no charge right now. Our Terms say we may introduce fees for the app or for particular features later, and if we do, you’ll get notice before any fee applies to you.

What’s included in the paid plan?

There isn’t one yet — everything in Joji is available at no charge right now. Our Terms say we may introduce fees for the app or for particular features later, and if we do, you’ll get notice before any fee applies to you.

Is there a plan for families?

One Joji account can hold profiles for the people you look after, and each profile keeps its own visits, records, and follow-ups.

Do I pay if my clinic gave me Joji?

Nobody pays for Joji today — it’s offered at no charge whether you found it yourself or your clinic handed you a code. If that changes, you’ll get notice before any fee applies to you.

Clinic participation

How do I know if my clinic uses Joji?

Your clinic is usually the one to tell you — a practice that takes part hands out a code or a QR card that sets up your recovery plan. If you’re not sure, ask them. Joji works either way.

Can I use Joji if my clinic doesn’t participate?

Yes. Joji is an app you download and control, not something your clinic switches on for you. You can record visits, scan documents, connect your health records, and build your history without your clinic taking part in anything.

Can I ask my clinic to offer Joji?

Yes. The For Clinicians section of this site is written for practices and has a way to request a free pilot, so the quickest route is pointing whoever runs your clinic at it.

Account management and deletion

How do I delete my account?

From your account settings inside the app. Deletion takes effect right away — your information stops being available immediately — and we permanently delete it from our systems 30 days later. Export anything you want to keep before you start.

Can I change what a caregiver sees, or remove them?

You can remove them at any time from Caregiver Access in your account settings, and they can end the link from their side too. What a linked person sees is the profile itself, so if you want to share less than that, share a single visit and choose what it includes.

How do I get help from a person?

Email hello@jojihealth.com. It’s the same address for support questions, privacy and data requests, and anything to do with your account, and you can reach it from inside the app too.
